I started blogging as part of an internship that took me to South America.  I had to keep a field study journal and I thought it would be an easy way to do that AND to keep my family updated on what I was  doing.  It has turned in to a way to share my triumphs, my dumb moments, and my real life struggles with those around me.  I don't pretend to be an expert on anything, but I love sharing my thoughts.
